FAQ's
Why are the sizes hand measured and different to standard sizes?
The sizing we use is based on Men's sizing, and is completely different to modern Women's sizing
Example - if you are a size 26" in modern Levi's - you are most likely a 28" in vintage
Vintage denim has little to no stretch at all and it can shrink and stretch over the years, causing the marked size (on the badge of the jeans) to be incorrect
We measure all the jeans with a tape to make sure you can achieve your perfect size
Do you customise the waist size of the denim?
We do not customise the waist size on our "ready-to-wear" pieces, the jeans size is in the description of the product
We do customise the waist size on the "made to order" pieces if that is what you desire, these will be customised/tailored to your measurements/size/information provided at the checkout
How do I know how to understand the sizing?
W (WAIST) L (LEG) H (Hips) these are the measurements of the jeans.
After measuring your body, you should find the best suited sizes for yourself.
Levi's aren't typically a baggy style of denim, so if you do want a baggy low-rise fit you need to size up. The bigger the waist size, the bigger the hip and leg measurement will be and the looser they will look. If you go for your exact measurements the Levi's will sit tight and fitted. Check out our size guide for a more in depth look into our sizing. We state what size our model wears under the Made-to-Order section to help further with finding your perfect fit
I want a pair of jeans that I have seen someone else wear, but they don't seem to be in stock.
Due to the nature of vintage Levi's, no two pairs of denim are the same and styles are 1 of 1. We aim to re-stock similar styles, so hopefully you can find your perfect pair. If you need more help, speak to one of the team who will be happy to assist
I have measured myself, but you don't have my size OR I want a pair that are sold out.
Because all the jeans are handpicked and vintage, we do try our up-most to source and select a range of waist and leg sizes, however, certain sizes can be harder to find so they take a bit longer to restock.
We have a huge inventory of vintage Levi's in our warehouse. Drop us an email (info@jeanvintage.co.uk) or DM with your measurements and we'll be happy to further look into finding your perfect pair for you
I want a boyfriend / baggy fit, what size shall I go for?
We love a baggy fit pair of denim! If you want to achieve this look, as a recommendation we say size up around 2 inches on your waist size. We recommend that you measure your body where you want the jeans to sit, for example on your hips, or mid-rise between your hips and waist. Go for the waist size that matches this measurement.
*An example, our model measures 31" at the smallest part of the waist, however for a baggy fit she wears W33/W34, so they sit lower at the hips and are baggy around the waist area
I want a tight fit, what size should I go for?
Denim is so flattering, it can do wonders for the booty. For a tight fit, snug at the bum and waist, go for your exact waist and hip measurements (make sure you have left a little room when taking your measurements as you want to make sure they fasten up and have a little room to move, so if in doubt or in between sizes, size up)
How do I know what size to buy?
To achieve the perfect fit you need to measure your body; this is the only way to know what size to purchase and what waist, hip and leg measurement to choose
Follow our size guide if you are unsure how to measure
My thighs and bum are not in proportion to my waist, and I am very curvy. What should I do?
Vintage denim has little to no stretch, so if you are curvy, you will need to size up in the waist. It is likely that if you buy your actual waist size, the jeans may not pull over your thighs/bum.
*If you would like us to provide additional measurements such as thigh circumference to ensure the jeans will fit, please contact us prior to purchase and we will be more than happy to help you get your correct size
I have measured my waist and inner leg and I am still unsure on what size to buy?
Drop us an email or DM on instagram, our team will happily help!
Can I get the jeans altered to my size?
This is the oldest trick in the book for achieving the best fitting jeans! Purchase a few sizes up from your waist size and take them to a tailor or seamstress. For a small cost they will measure you and take them in to your exact size. If you plan to do this, size up
We can tailor denim at an additional cost, email or DM for this service
How do you hand measure the jeans?
We measure the jeans laid flat and double the measurement for the waist
We measure from the crotch to the ankle for the inseam/leg length
We measure across the bum - across the bum pockets and double the measurement to get the hip size
We always measure in inches
How do I wash and care for vintage / customised denim?
Wash your vintage denim with care, we recommend to wash as infrequently as possible to protect the fibres and fit. Wash on a low temperature, 30 degrees or below. At first instance, spot clean. You will hate us for this - but avoid putting your jeans in the dryer as they will most likely shrink.
For painter denim, hand-wash or wash cold to preserve the paint, this will naturally fade over time.
Jeans with compositional changes like the addition of exotic leather cannot be washed in the washing machine. Spot clean or hand wash only to preserve the material. Avoid getting water on the snakeskin too!
Distressing will naturally enhance over time - the beauty of vintage denim!
Are the jeans new?
To keep it brief, no! We sell vintage denim. We do promise that once you invest in your first pair with us, you won't go back. Each pair of vintage jeans are hand-picked and one of a kind. There will be absolutely no two pairs we sell that are the same.
Vintage denim may show various imperfections and may have some marks/stains and rips. With vintage items there is always a chance they will show some imperfections due to natural wear and tear and their age - we believe this adds to their story and makes them even more unique! The imperfections that may be on the jeans does not impact their wear.
All pairs are pre-loved and we do not manufacture them
Do you accept returns/exchanges?
We accept returns on our "READY TO WEAR" pieces and operate an exchange / store-credit option. We understand that vintage sizing runs different so we want to make the process as easy as possible for you; helping you achieve your desired fit
Our "MADE TO ORDER" denim that is customised to your personal requests is not eligible for return or exchange due to the customised nature of the item
